The CPV consortium, formed by CSC SA (Lugano) and Pizzarotti SA (Bellinzona), signed the EUR43 million contract for the construction of Lot 854 at Vezia, the main lot of Ceneri Base Tunnel, including the south portal, 200 m of cut-and-cover tunnel, as well as drilling, blasting and lining both tunnels along a length of 300 m. The consortium Autopista do Marão, formed by Sacyr Vallehermoso's concession arm Itinere, its Portuguese construction unit Somague Engenharia, MSF Concessões SGPS and MSF Empreiteiros, has beaten AEDM (Auto-Estrada do Marão), a consortium led by Brisa Auto-Estradas de Portugal, in the bidding for the 29.8 km Amarante-Vila Real toll highway concession and the Geraldes junction-Padronelo junction toll-free section in northern Portugal. The Ministry of public works and transport started the awarding process on 1st April and the two finalists have ten days to express issues on the proposed award. After this time frame, the government will award the concession contract definitively this month. The concession is for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a new toll highway named Túnel do Marao. Construction will commence in 2009 and the road will be opened in 2012. 15/08.
