The Finnish rail administration RHK has made a procurement decision to order services for detail design of the tunnel part of the ring rail line (formerly a project known as Marja line) to the Helsinki Vantaa airport from a consortium of consultants led by Pöyry. The value of the services provided is estimated at about EUR10.6 million. Pöyry's share of the services will amount to EUR7.5 million. The other member of the consortium is WSP Finland for street connections and rock mechanical simulations. In total, five other Pöyry Group companies will be involved as subconsulting companies, but the project management as well as the major part of the design will be done by Pöyry Infra. These other five Pöyry affiliates are PES-Architects for architectural design of underground stations, Pontek for structures of one underground station, Rapal, Akukon and Marsh. The final contract will be signed when the public procurement is legally valid approximately in August 2008. The services will be provided during the period 2008-2012. The new railway line will connect the existing Martinlaakso line with the main line via the airport. The length of the line is 18 km, of which about 8.1 km will be in a tunnel under the airport area. Three to four new underground stations will be constructed. Together with the Kerava and Leppävaara urban lines and the Martinlaakso line, it will constitute an integrated urban railway loop. Trains will run at 10 minute intervals during peak hours. The shortest travelling time from Helsinki to the airport will be some 30 minutes. Visit www.keharata.net/english/index.html 30/08.
