Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) has invited bids, deadline 30.08.2009, from consulting firms to conduct an 18-month feasibility study of its proposed 340 km Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. The city's Department of Transport and the selected firm will closely study the plan to assess its financial viability, initial design of network and stations, vehicle size and other technical specifications. The LRT project is part of the city's 'master transport plan 2030' to build a rail network connecting areas within the city as well as linking the city to Dubai, Al Ain, the Western Region and Saudi Arabia. The plan also includes a 580 km high-speed rail line and 130 km metro system. The LRT project is expected to be complete in 2014.
