The consortium of Pöyry, Cal y Mayor and Geoconsult were selected in October, 2009 to provide consultancy services and conceptual design for the first line metro in Panama City. Prequalification notice (n. SMP 01-2010), deadline 08.02.2010, for seeking interest in a turnkey contract to build metro line 1 in Panama City. The turnkey contract includes civil works and rolling stock, plus the maintenance depot and operations control centre. Estimated cost USD1-1.5 billion. The 14 km-long Line 1 alignment starts at Los Andes in the north of the city, and terminates at the main transport hub in Albrook, and includes 7 km of tunnel. There are 16 stations, of which 11 will be underground.
Successful consortia will be invited to submit offers by 24.05.2010 for the design, construction and fitting out of Line 1. A preferred bidder is due to be named on 25.06.2010, with the contract signing set for 23.07.2010 for construction completion by 31.12.2013.
