The Veneto regional assembly has approved a financing proposal presented by Grandi Lavori Fincosit, Adria Infrastrutture and Mantovani for the design, construction and operation under concession of the so-called Alpe Adria connection-Extension of highway A27. The EUR845 million Liefkenshoek railway connection project involves the construction and maintenance of the civil infrastructure for a new 16.2 km freight-only railway, whereof 8 km in tunnel, linking the western docks and eastern docks of Antwerp. The project is a design, build, finance and maintain type agreement, with a maturity period of 41½ years

Splashes of yellow and orange paint will line a wall of the 3.5 km Burnley tunnel as part of a AUD12.5 million makeover. The full colour facelift has been planned for two years and is designed to enhance safety. The Domain tunnel wall will be painted blue to help drivers differentiate between the two tunnels. The work will also include new lighting and bigger signs at exits. 38/07.

Melbourne's Domain and Burnley tunnels will receive improved safety exits and lighting after three people died in March in the Burnley tunnel when a semi-trailer pulled up in the tunnel and vehicles tried to merge into the next lane. Several were hit by a truck that did not stop or slow down. The coronial inquest into the Burnley tunnel crash is still ongoing. The Burnley tunnel will be given a graduated yellow and orange paint scheme on the left-hand wall and the Domain tunnel a blue-coloured paint scheme. The new facelift will include green painted exits with a white 'running man', improved pedestrian safety rails, signage and lighting to help identify exits. It will provide clear directional signage for people and how to evacuate the tunnel, get to the exit points and go through to the emergency exits.

The tunnel works will commence in a number of weeks and will be finished early next year. The Domain tunnel will be the first one painted and that should be completed by the end of this year. Operator CityLink said the AUD12.5 million paint job has been in planning for the last two years. 38/07.
