The Veneto regional assembly has approved a financing proposal presented by Grandi Lavori Fincosit, Adria Infrastrutture and Mantovani for the design, construction and operation under concession of the so-called Alpe Adria connection-Extension of highway A27. From the administrative point of view, the proposal has been sent to the regional council to be submitted to a commission of counsellors

The EUR845 million Liefkenshoek railway connection project involves the construction and maintenance of the civil infrastructure for a new 16.2 km freight-only railway, whereof 8 km in tunnel, linking the western docks and eastern docks of Antwerp. The project is a design, build, finance and maintain type agreement, with a maturity period of 41½ years

Solicitation for conceptual proposals, deadline 29th September, 2008 for improvements to the Downtown tunnel, the Midtown tunnel and the Martin Luther King (MLK) freeway extension between Norfolk and Portsmouth in the Hampton Roads area, as part of a plan to make an estimated USD1 billion.

The Spanish Tunnelling Association (AETOS) organises an international tunnelling congress and technical exhibition in Madrid on 5th, 6th and 7th November, 2007. This is the first international tunnelling event that AETOS will be organising in at least 12 years.

The congress, which bears the title “Tunnels: drivers of change”, will serve as a showcase to present not only some of the projects under construction in Spain (there are so many!) but also projects currently under way in France, Switzerland and Italy, who are co-sponsoring the event together with AETOS through their national tunnelling associations and societies (respectively AETOS, SIA/GTS and SIG).

Among the Spanish projects to be highlighted are the metro systems of Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Seville, high speed rail tunnels, Madrid's outer ring road M-30, etc... According to the initial plan, the programme of conferences will consist of four sessions that will cover all the different topics related to tunnelling, and particularly the new technologies and innovations that have contributed to the advancement of the tunnelling industry.
